Your Shopify Plan
Not all plans are eligible to add their own carrier shipping accounts. Basic Shopify Plans do not have the option to add their own accounts. The next step up from Basic is the Shopify Plan. With the Shopify Plan monthly billing you can add the option to add your own shipping carrier for $20/month. With the Shopify Plan annual billing adding your own carrier is a free included benefit. You might have to chat with customer service to have this feature enabled. It takes roughly 5 minutes. Customer service chat can be found at help.shopify.com.
Adding Your Carrier Shipping Account
Open Your Admin Portal
On the bottom left hand side of your screen click on Settings. It will open your admin portal settings. From the left hand side menu, select Shipping and Delivery.
Add Carrier Account
Scroll all the way down to the bottom on the Shipping and Delivery page and you’ll see the above option to connect your own carrier account.
Enter Your Account Details
Add your specific account details to the form. Make sure that the information being entered is exactly the same displayed on your UPS account. UPS has very strong fraud prevention in place and will reject accounts with incorrect information.
Buy Labels with Your Account
Under Account to by labels, make sure that you choose your account. This will ensure that you’re buying shipping labels using your pre-negotiated shipping rates. You’ll next enter the details from a recent invoice to verify that this account belongs to you and to prevent fraud from occurring.
Testing Your Rates
It can take up to 3 days for your negotiated rates to be active. But we can test them now.
You account is now visible under Shipping and Delivery. Beside your account click Test Account.
Create a shipment in Shopify and create the exact same shipment at UPS.com to compare rates. If your rates do not match, it’s likely that your individual carrier account pricing has not yet loaded into Shopify yet. Remember, it can take up to 3 days for these changes to take place. In the meantime, you can continue to use the shipping process that you were using.
Now you have the freedom to utilize your own negotiate shipping rates on your own accounts! Congrats!
